Less than 24 hours after a New York judge decided on Wednesday that Marvel stat Jonathan Majors would stand trial next month for his domestic dispute case, his accuser, Grace Jabbari, was arrested.

Per the New York Post, Jabbari turned herself in to Manhattan police Wednesday night where she was subsequently arrested and charged with misdemeanor counts of assault and criminal mischief. She was later released on a desk appearance ticket that same evening, which means she’ll have to return to criminal court for an arraignment at a later date. Despite her arrest, the D.A.’s office in the case have previously stated that they will not prosecute her.
This twist in the seemingly never-ending case comes just months after Majors’ legal team filed a cross-complaint against Jabbari where he alleged she was the aggressor in the case—an argument they’ve been insistent upon since the very beginning. Her arrest also comes months after New York authorities previously issued an “I-Card” back in June—which authorized them to bring her in under “probable cause”—but they decided not to. This development also comes after Majors’ lawyey Priya Chaudhry allegedly submitted a slew of evidence which she believes proves her client’s innocence.
In a statement to press at the time, Chaudhry said:
“We strongly suggested the District Attorney dismiss all charges against Mr. Majors immediately and initiate proceedings against Ms. Jabbari, holding her accountable for her crimes.
“While we are hopeful that the District Attorney is reviewing these materials in good faith and will do the right thing soon, to accelerate our case, we’ve requested a trial date ASAP.”
Additionally, in a statement to reporters Wednesday night, the attorney representing Jabbari said:
“She was the victim in this case and, you know, they’re going to do the right thing. It just happened that we had to come in here. And have her spend and, you know, unfortunately, bad night at the police precinct.”
As previously and extensively covered by The Root, Majors currently faces “two counts of assault in the third degree, attempted assault in the third degree, aggravated harassment in the second degree, and harassment in the second degree.” If convicted, he could spend up to a year in jail.
