More than ever before, this year’s Homecoming season has caused quite the fashion uproar. Our Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) are known for setting trends and stepping outside the box, but after this year, it could be time to reel it back in. From inappropriate skirts to tired fashion trends, y’all might have gone a little too far with the fits this time around.

Now, The Root is not here to judge anyone, but we do have questions about some of this year’s Homecoming outfit choices. Remember, Homecoming is a family affair full of networking opportunities, small children, and tenured professors. But enough about us, we’ll let you see and decide for yourself.

To close off Homecoming season, take a look at some of the questionable fashion choices. We have to warn you: many of these aren’t that bad, but others… just brace yourself.

Camo on Camo

Starting off calm, these outfits weren’t bad… but will we ever end the camo pants trend?

Lace With Jordans?

We’re not sure where the “lace pants in public” trend came from, but let’s be serious here.

What Happened to Family Functions??

Objectively, this shirt is outrageous right?!

Yellow Tights for School Pride

We don’t know what this fit is giving…

Cowboy Bison

We went from inappropriate shirts to no shirt at all…

Too Much School Pride?

This student clearly loves her HBCU but maybe a little bit too much.

Is There Such Thing As ‘Too Different?’

From the dramatic shoulders on this long-sleeve crop top all the way down to the pink boots, we got serious questions.

Bubble Skirts

If you’re not on HBCU TikTok, just know the “bubble skirt” trend has many people shocked. Bubble skirts have been taking over the club scene this year, but some things are better left where you found them… at the club! Moving forward, let’s try to be a little more mindful.

Is There Such Thing As Too Short Shorts?!

Similar to the bubble skirt mess, these shorts just keep getting shorter and shorter… and shorter.

A Snake?!?

Now, who brings a snake to Homecoming???

Double Jeans, Double Belts??

Is it creative? Yes. Is it… different? Hell yes! We know he was hot under all that denim.

Jerseys With Any and Everything?

If it’s one thing about an HBCU tailgate, you can expect to see more sports jerseys in the stands than on the field.

School Boy Meets… What?

Yeah, we don’t even know.

Again With the Oversized Jerseys…

Oversized jerseys with tennis skirts are…. a choice to say the least.

School Pride Overload!

This HBCU alumna could teach these young kids a lot about school spirit.

Again With the Too Mini Skirts…

There’s really nothing else to say on this note.

What Season is it Even?!

We get that the trend is these furry boots in the summer, but aren’t y’all hot?!
