Judge Greg Mathis mightโve gotten his wife back, but now he could be facing consequences of a whole different brand following a 2023 confrontation in front of his own house.

According to a lawsuit obtained by TMZ, Mathis has been accused of pulling a gun out on Ricardo Acosta, a Los Angeles municipal worker. Acosta alleges he was on the job with the L.A. Dept. of Water and Power in July 2023 when Mathis started pulling out of his garage in his car.
The dump truck was apparently blocking Mathisโ driveway, allegedly prompting him to get out of his vehicle and began yelling at Acosta.
โMove the f***** truck out of the way,โ Mathis allegedly told Acosta. A heated argument then ensued when Acosta told Mathisโ who at this point was standing behind the dump truck, according to the suitโ to move, in fear he might be ran over when the vehicle began moving. And this is where Acosta and Mathisโ accounts start to differ.
According to Mathis, Acosta got smart with him, saying if he didnโt move, heโd be ran over. The judge took this as a threat. Acosta, on the other hand, claims Mathis then told him he โdid not give a f*** and to run him over and see what happens to him,โ reported TMZ.
From here, all we know for certain is Mathis went back into his house and came out with a gun. Although Mathis says he never showed the gun or pointed it at anyone, Acosta claims Mathis did indeed flash the weapon and threaten to โbust a cap...you wanna f*** with me.โ
Eventually, things cooled off. The truck was moved, and Mathis went on his way. But now, Acosta plans to sue Mathis for assault and intentional infliction of emotional distress, although the lawsuit hasnโt been filed just yet.
In response, attorney Anahita Sedaghatfar, who is representing Mathis, told TMZ, โThis unfiled complaint that has been conveniently publicly circulated is a last ditch attempt by Mr. Acosta to extort my client Judge Mathis, for financial gain.โ She continued:ย โMr. Acostaโs recitation of the โfactsโ simply do not comport with what actually transpired during the incident, which occurred over one year ago.โ
Sedaghatfar also said โthe LAPD did not even investigate Mr. Acostaโs claims speaks to their lack of merit. Should Mr. Acosta pursue this lawsuit, we will not only vigorously defend the case, we will file cross claims against Mr. Acosta for his illegal conduct and repeated defamation of my client.โ
