Donald Trump has made it a political strategy to personally attack Vice President Kamala Harris. On Saturday (August 17), his gross antics were once again on full display when the former president held a campaign rally in the battleground state of Pennsylvania.

In typical Trump fashion—he couldn’t help but mock his Democratic opponent’s looks. However, he needs to stop commenting on Black women period. His attacks on Harris have always been rooted in both racism and sexism.
In addition, it’s a distraction from the fact that Trump is losing steam as Harris now leads in more battleground states. Black folks know that Trump’s remarks aren’t just racist, but they’re just plain wrong.
At the Pennsylvania rally, the former president talked for almost two hours and insulted Harris’ tentative economic policy before insulting her appearance.
“Yesterday, Kamala laid out her so-called economic plan. She says she’s going to lower the cost of food and housing starting on day one. But day one for Kamala was three and a half years ago,” Trump said according to ABC News.
Trump then complained about the backlash he allegedly received after he called Harris “beautiful” on the cover of Time Magazine last week in an interview with Elon Musk.
“Don’t ever call a woman beautiful, because that’ll be the end of your political career, please,” Trump stated at the rally. He followed it up by taking a personal swipe at Harris.
“But I say that I am much better looking. I’m a better-looking person than Kamala. They said, ‘No, her biggest advantage is that she’s a beautiful woman.’ I’m going, huh? I never thought of that. I’m better looking than she is.”
Trump’s attack on Harris is far from new. At the National Association of Black Journalists’ annual conference in Chicago last month, he stated Harris’ Blackness seemingly came out of nowhere.
“I did not know she was Black until a couple of years ago when she happened to turn Black,” Trump infamously said at the event. “And now she wants to be known as Black. Is she Indian, or is she Black?”
Furthermore, other conservative politicians like Rep. Tim Burchett, (R-Tenn.), have called Harris a “DEI vice president” and questioned her intelligence. JD Vance has called her a “childless cat lady” on several occasions and others have even demonized her dating past.
Unfortunately for Trump, Harris’ quest for the White House will continue regardless of all of the name-calling.
