The Washington Post reports that Daniel Rowe, 32, came up to the couple at about 8:30 p.m.ย as they left the China Clipper Club Cafe on bustling Fourth Street in Olympia, Wash., and lunged at them with a knife.

The 47-year-old black man, who was stabbed in the hip, was able to tackle the suspect and restrain him on the ground until police arrived. His injuries were minor, as were the womanโ€™s, who was grazed with the knife.

According to the Post, police said that the man said, โ€œYeah, I stabbed them. Iโ€™m a white supremacist,โ€ when he was arrested. He also reportedly began talking about attacking Black Lives Matter protesters and Donald Trump rallies.

He was also said to have more than a few white supremacist tattoos, including those that read โ€œskinhead,โ€ โ€œwhite powerโ€ and โ€œhooliganโ€ and depicted the Confederate flag.

Rowe had recently been released from Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla, about 300 miles away, and may have been homeless.

Investigators are treating the attack as a hate crime. Rowe has been charged with two counts of first-degree assault and one count of malicious harassment.

He is being held on $500,000 bail at the Thurston County Jail.
