The project, which was co-produced by the BBC and Discovery Channel over four years, captures images from all over the African continent. The production team shot more than 2,000 hours of footage. Viewers will witness what is believed to be one of the last gatherings of rhinoceroses on earth, lizards that sleep on lions' backs to hunt for flies in the Serengeti and a young chimp in Congo who cleverly uses tools to hunt for honey.

Africa is set to premiere on the Discovery Channel on Jan. 8, 2013, at 10 p.m. ET. Check out the trailer below:
