Beloved R&B singer Usher is one of the latest celebs getting wrapped up in the online discourse following Diddy’s demise — but there’s more to it than meets the eye. I’ll explain.

Though there are multiple stories from both Usher’s own mouth and others about his time spent with the Bad Boy mogul as a teen, the latest talk seems to be spawned by a mountain of recently deleted tweets from the singer’s official X/Twitter account. Usher says that he was simply hacked, and that people are overreacting.
“Account got hacked and damn y’all ran with it!” the “Climax” singer wrote on Sunday night, ahead of his second performance in Los Angeles as a part of his “Past, Present and Future Tour.” “ See you tonight at Intuit Dome.”
Hacked or not, folks online weren’t buying it at all. And why is that, you may ask? In addition to those deleted tweets coming amid Diddy’s federal indictment, they also come as Usher was named in the latest lawsuit filed against the power producer by former Diddy Dirty Money and Danity Kane member Dawn Richard. To be clear, Usher wasn’t accused of any wrongdoing in the suit, but Richard alleged that he was a witness to seeing Diddy physically assault ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura.
Those aforementioned coincidences were ammo for folks to speculate that Usher’s deleted tweets were somehow connected to Diddy’s impending downfall. People assumed that it was the “U Got It Bad” singer’s attempt at trying to clean house.
“Nobody’s buying that dude. You better find yourself a nice non-extradition island to go to and stay there for a while,” wrote one user on X/Twitter in response to Usher’s tweet.
Added another in the replies, “Wow. Ok bro. Thats some IMPECCABLE timing after your handler, erm I mean ‘friend’ Diddy is now going down for crimes against children. You are a terrible liar. You can try to run…but you cannot HIDE. It will ALL come out.”
Said one other user, referencing just one of the shocking revelations from Diddy’s federal indictment: “Just answer this question: How much baby oil do you have stocked in your basement?”
But while trying to be an internet sleuth may seem fun for a while, Usher’s account actually was hacked nearly two weeks ago, as evidenced by screenshots posted by other users on X/Twitter.
In it, you can see the “You Make Me Wanna” singer’s account firing off countless tweets around Sep. 12, pushing a meme coin scam and encouraging followers to give money to some shady cryptocurrency investment. [Author’s note: I also saw these tweets happening in real time and knew something was up.]
So while folks may think this all had something to do with or was connected somehow to Diddy — it appears that it didn’t. Not everything is a conspiracy, folks. Let’s do better next time.
