Whoopi Goldberg is speaking out and adding her two cents in the ongoing conversation about the โBarbieโ movieโs recent snub at this yearโs Oscar nominations.

For clarity, the social media streets have been lit up with anger from folks who took issue with the fact that neither โBarbieโ lead star Margot Robbie nor director Greta Gerwig got nominated. The filmโs male lead, Ryan Gosling however, did get nominated for Best Actor while America Ferrera also secured a nom for Best Supporting Actress for the same film. The film was also nominated for Best Pictureโof which Robbie is credited as producer and therefore, still eligible for a win. The film is also up for Best Adapted Screenplay, which means Gerwig is also eligible for a win as well.
Yet and still, folks are crying snub and on Wednesdayโs episode of The View, it was clear that Goldberg has clearly heard enough it.
โItโs not the elites, itโs the entire family of the Academy Awards who vote for Best Picture nominations. We all vote for Best Picture, everybody,โ she said before later disagreeing with a few of her cohost on โBarbieโsโ snub and Ava DuVernayโs โOriginโ snub, opting instead not to call it that at all.
โThere are no snubs. Thatโs what you have to keep in mind: Not everybody gets a prize, and it is subjective. Movies are subjective,โ Goldberg explained. โThe movies you love may not be loved by the people who are voting.โ
And you know what? She has a point. But just because she has a point, doesnโt mean people canโt still be upset about it. Plus, letโs not act like these voting bodies have always gotten it right (Iโm still upset about โThe Color Purpleโ getting mostly shut out this year and โThe Woman Kingโsโ snub from 2022.) People can not like what they donโt like, but that doesnโt mean others wonโt feel some type of way about it.
