In news that can only be described as “bro, are you crazy,” famed hip-hop exec Dame Dash revealed how he almost got caught up in Hurricane Milton’s warpath.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock this week, then you should know that the deadly Category 3 storm hit Florida on Wednesday, killing at least 14 people and knocking out power to three million others. In the days leading up to its landfall, many of the state’s residents decided to evacuate for safety — but Dame almost didn’t go due to how he felt he and his family would’ve been perceived by his neighbors.
“We were like, ‘all right, we’re gonna try to grind it out and stay. Because none of our neighbors were leaving and the people that we know that are from Florida, like everyday, all day it kinda seemed like we were soft if we were leaving — pause,” he said in an Instagram Live video posted on Thursday. “So I’m looking at the news and I’m looking at our algorithm. So like when the fires happened in Malibu, we ended up right, smack dab in the middle of the fire, had to drive through it. And it was like ‘damn, the whole world’s talking about this but we in it.’”
He went on to describe another fire that got bad and took place in Wyoming while he and his loved ones were there. He shared that as the reason why he and his family — which includes a baby and four dogs, he pointed out — ultimately decided to leave and to avoid jeopardizing their safety.
“Finally, we were like, ‘Yo, let’s just get up out of here.’ Long as we can get gas, we got a place to go,” Dash said. “If you live in a place where natural disasters happen, like hurricanes, like once a year, you gotta have a hurricane house on deck to go to. So we figured it out, we know where we’re going amongst family and all that. But I’m sick of this shit, I ain’t gonna hold you.”
While folks were glad Dame and his family got out safely, in the comments section on Instagram, they concurrently dragged the Roc-A-Fella Records founder for feeling the pressure to stay.
“A grown ass man worried about strangers would think if he evacuated his family from a Hurricane…SMH. I thought he was a Boss,” one user commented.
“Nigga I’d rather be soft & safe then hard & dead,” wrote another.
“Dumbest ish I’ve heard all week,” one other user wrote.
