Babyface was trending on social media sites on Grammys night, but not for a reason you would expect. The music legend behind some of the greatest R&B hits of all time got snubbed in a major way on the red carpet, with hosts from the Associated Press cutting him off mid-interview to get a moment to chat with the nightโs Best New Artist winner, Chappell Roan.

In the now-viral clip, Babyface is clearly in the middle of answering a question to the interviewers, hosts Leslie Ambriz and Krysta Fauria โItโs interesting, um,โ the iconic producer and songwriter began to say, before the hosts cut him off, calling out to Chappell Roan. Later in the broadcast, the host Leslie Abriz apologized to the camera. โFirst I wanted to say that Iโm really sorry about interrupting Babyface earlier. Chappell Roan had come up and there is a lot of commotion as there is on these carpets. Iโm a big Babyface fan as are we all, and I just wanted to say that I really apologize.โ
Naturally, fans were not happy about the exchange, with many calling the entire moment rude and โdisrespectful,โ and also highlighting that this all happened on the second day of Black History Month. One user wrote, โMind you, Babyface is also an honorary member of the Grammyโs Writers and Composers Wing.โ
Another user, writing out his accolades, wrote, โBabyface is a 12-time Grammy Award-winning recording artist, songwriter, producer. He has contributed to over 800 million records sold. He has produced and written 125 Top 10 Hits, 45 number 1 R&B hits, and 16 number 1 pop hits.โ
