The DNC’s Coldest Clapbacks Targeted at Trump

Finally, Democrats are giving Donald Trump a taste of his own medicine on the DNC stage

Former First Lady Michelle Obama uttered her famous phrase โ€œwhen they go low, we go highโ€ for the first time during the 2016 Democratic National Convention. But eight years and a Donald Trump presidency later, itโ€™s clear the new plan for Democrats is to meet Trump exactly where heโ€™s at: the lowest of the low.

This yearโ€™s Democratic National Convention (DNC) has been nothing short of exciting from celebrity appearances to the high energy voting roll call. But what The Root argues might be the most entertaining parts of each night are the speakers not holding back from calling out the GOP nominee any chance they get. Letโ€™s revisit the best clapbacks to Trump heading into the final night of the DNC.

At the beginning of her almost ten-minute speech, Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett told the audience โ€œLetโ€™s compare their [Trump and Harris] resumes. Shall we?โ€ To put it simply, Crockett let it rip with a detailed list of comparisons between the two candidates.

Without even mentioning names, Oprah Winfrey made it known that โ€œWe are beyond ridiculous tweets and lies and foolery,โ€ she said. Obviously, Oprah had Trump in mind here, but she also made sure to mention JD Vanceโ€™s โ€œchildless cat ladyโ€ comment hitting two birds with one stone.

Pete Buttigieg Tells Americans Not To Forget

Only on the 2024 DNC stage would you ever see professional basketball coach Steve Kerr tell Trump โ€œnight, nightโ€ as a nod to โ€œthe great Steph Curry.โ€ And the sleeping hands gesture just added 10,000 more comedic cool points to the jab.

Speaker of the House Hakeem Jeffries created the perfect analogy that really got the DNC crowd talking. During his speech, Jeffries compared Trump to an โ€œold boyfriend who you broke up with, but he just wonโ€™t go away.โ€ He continued telling Trump โ€œBro, we broke up with you for a reason.โ€

In one of the best speeches so far at the DNC, N.Y. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called Trump everything but an angel. Buckling down, AOC said sheโ€™s tired of โ€œa two-bit union busterโ€ saying heโ€™s more patriotic than Vice President Kamala Harris.

Now try to say that five times fast.

Remember when Hilary Clintonโ€™s 2016 presidential campaign was filled with slogans like โ€œIโ€™m with herโ€ and โ€œstronger together?โ€ Well, one of the most iconic chants made itโ€™s comeback at the DNC when Clinton said Trump made history as the first person to run with 34 convictions. โ€œLock him upโ€ chants from the crowd quickly filled the room, and Clinton could do nothing but stand there smiling.

Clinton made it known that heโ€™s โ€œstill younger than Trumpโ€ despite being elected president over 30 years ago. If that wasnโ€™t enough, Clinton said he was speechless over Trump โ€œobsession with Hannibal Lector.โ€
