Jamal Simmons, a former communications director for Vice President Kamala Harris, made a shocking suggestion about a transition of power while appearing on CNN’s State of the Union news show.

During the Sunday segment, Simmons said that President Joe Biden should resign so that Harris can become the first woman to serve as U.S. president.
There is no proof that the Biden-Harris administration has considered doing this, but according to The Guardian, Simmons claimed Biden “could resign the presidency in the next 30 days to make Kamala Harris the president of the United States.”
Simmons explained this move would prevent Harris from having to certify her election loss to Donald Trump in the U.S. Senate and “would dominate the news at a point [when] Democrats have to learn” to demand America’s attention.
“There’s one promise left that [Biden] can fulfill: being a transitional figure,” Simmons commented. While State of the Union host Dana Bash insisted that Simmons’ idea “has now jumped from an internet meme to a Sunday morning talk show,” folks on social media weren’t so quick to write it off.
He’s not the only one with that sentiment: NewsNation’s Kurt Bardella wrote that Biden should pardon his son Hunter and then step down, making the way for a couple months of a Harris presidency.
“Make one more mark in the history books while you can. I’m not saying that’s going to happen, but if I were Joe Biden, that’s exactly what I would do,” Bardella said.
One X user, @whartonrigby, stated that Biden could “go out a legend” and resign to make Harris president. However, @JayVTheGreat believes that Biden has consistently been bullied the last few months of his presidency.
He wrote: “Dems are insane! If I was Joe, I’d come out and put all of this talk to bed & advise them that we’re getting ready to help Trump transition into the presidency smoothly.”
Of course, one X user had to let her petty shine through. “My friend who worked on the Harris campaign said Joe Biden should resign and have Kamala as the president for a few months, just to f**k up all of Trump’s 47 merchandise,” @Kyla_Lacey commented.
