If you see Sexxy Red and youโre trying to see whatโs up...then you might be surprised to learn that the โSkee-Yeeโ rapper may just be pivoting to a new genre: kidโs rap.

The potential change in pace comes after the rapper and her music were the subject of a TikTok video where a childrenโs ballet teacher admonished educators and parents to actually work with their children and teach them how to respect authority figures, boundaries and be more diligent about keeping content that isnโt meant for or good for them at their age away from themโlike Reddโs music. She then went on to describe a scenario where she was teaching a class and instead of the ballet music, her students requested instead that she play Redโs hit โPound Town.โ
โItโs horrifying. Your five-year-old daughters are asking to listen to โPound Townโ and โSkeeYee,โโ she said. โYour daughters, your five-year-old daughters, are asking, โCan we hear โPound Town?โ Iโm playing them Princess Tiana, ballet music and they are asking me, โCan we hear Pound Town?โโ
She later added: โWhereโs the parenting? Whereโs the boundaries? Whereโs the help? Yโall are not helping your kids, youโre hurting them.โ
In response to the viral video, Red responded in a since-deleted tweet, โGirl play poundtown skeeyee & stfu.โ
But it appears she may have had a change of heart (I say this with every sarcastic bone in my body), as she later followed that response up with: โIma make some kidz bop songs for yall fr,โ as captured by Complex. Her Twitter/X account has since been suspended.
Now whether or not Red actually decides to make a Turn Up for Toddlers tape or not, what bears repeating is the sentiment put forth by the concerned teacher about the importance of making sure our kids are exposed to things that are age-appropriate. And while we, of course, canโt tell anyone how to parent their children, I would hope we would all agree on the fact that those precious minds are our future and it would be more advantageous than not to make sure theyโre ingesting the right things for their malleable minds.
