The Republican was outraged by the president's remarks at a National Prayer Breakfast. In the speech, Obama said that raising taxes on the wealthy was rooted in Jesus' teachings of "for unto whom much is given, much shall be required."

"Someone needs to remind the president that there was only one person who walked on water, and he did not occupy the Oval Office," Hatch said during a speech he made from the Senate floor. "I think most Americans would agree that the Gospels are concerned with weightier matters than effective tax rates."

Hatch also criticized the president for his mandate that Catholic universities and hospitals provide birth control coverage through their employee health care plans. House Speaker John Boehner is also against the administration's position on this issue.

One point: We don't recall Obama comparing himself to Jesus, but we also don't think that Jesus spent a lot of time defending the rich. Another point: We don't think that enabling more Americans to protect themselves against unwanted pregnancies is a bad thing.
