That remains to be seen, but actress Regina Hall confirmed to BuzzFeed News that a sequel is in the works.

During a visit to AM to DM, Hall said, โ€œWeโ€™re trying to make that happen. So weโ€™re trying to get everything together with the schedule. I think theyโ€™re working on something. I donโ€™t know where weโ€™re going. I donโ€™t know where the girls are going, but โ€ฆ weโ€™re going somewhere.โ€

The original Girls Trip, which was written by Kenya Barris (Blackish) and directed by Malcolm D. Lee (The Best Man), dispelled any belief that a film featuring an all-black cast canโ€™t make money when it grossed $140.9 million at the box office. Hall appeared along with actress and comedian Tiffany Haddishโ€”in what would prove to be her breakout roleโ€”Jada Pinkett Smith and Queen Latifah. The four women played college friends who reunite for a trip down to New Orleans during Essenceโ€™s annual music and entertainment festival. The adventures and misadventures they get into kept audiences in stitches all summer long.

Although no official announcement of a sequel has been made yet, Lee told EW that they wanted to do one.

โ€œThe audience really took to it, I think theyโ€™d want to see what the Flossy Posse is up to next and Iโ€™m hoping that we can make that happen and bring that to the masses,โ€ Lee said.

โ€œIt has to be a little bit bigger, it has to be just as good, just as funny, just as outrageous and that takes time. Weโ€™ve got to figure out how thatโ€™s all going to come together and coalesce in a script and make it worth our time as filmmakers, their time as actors, and the audienceโ€™s time as consumers. So we donโ€™t want to do it if itโ€™s not going to be great. We want to make sure that itโ€™s a quality piece of work,โ€ he added.

Sometimes sequels fail to capture the magic of the first film, but in this instance, itโ€™s safe to assume more laughs and good times will be had.
