“Slow down, because I’m an old man,” the president joked with his tutor.

The event was part of Computer Science Education Week at the White House, where Obama was hoping to shed light on the back-end technology skills that are in high demand across several industries.

“We're starting too late when it comes to making sure that our young people are familiar not only with how to play a video game but how to create a video game,” he told the group of middle school students.

“One of the great things about America is that we invent and make stuff, not just use it,” the president continued.

According to NBC News, the Hour of Code event “was part of a global campaign to get more kids—especially girls—to try their hand at computer coding.”
