Three suspects were seen in a surveillance video speedingย away from the scene of the shooting in a white Jeep Cherokee. Police are currentlyย searching for them.

According to the Miami Herald, Walker, the father of two, used to work with a Brooklyn, N.Y., advocacy group called Save Our Streets. The group was working to reduce gun violence. Through a program partially funded by the U.S. Department of Justice, Walker was one of four activists who conducted outreach in areas that were known to have had several shootings.

According to CBS News, in a 2011 interview he said that he had moved on from his own criminal past and now wanted to show people how to avoid street violence.

"Sad that he lost his life in the manner which he fought to end," said his friend Kenneth Edwards.
