New York Mets pitcher Jeurys Familia—who appeared in an anti-domestic-violence public service announcement—was arrested Monday for domestic violence.

According to the New York Post, Familia, 27, was arrested and charged with domestic violence and allegedly gave police his middle name—Mojica—as his last time to keep the arrest from the Mets.
The right-hander and his wife were reportedly out celebrating a birthday Sunday night before returning to their New York home early Monday morning. An argument ensued and police were called. Police reported that they observed a bruise on his wife's cheek and scratches on her chest. Familia was taken into custody and charged with simple assault. He posted bail later that day and is due back in court Thursday.
Familia told a reporter that he is innocent of the charges.
"Somebody is trying to damage my reputation with this info. I’m at peace with my family," Familia said.
The pitcher appeared in several PSAs of the #NotAFan campaign, which aired on television stations during Mets games and on video billboards in Times Square, the Post reports.
"I am a fan of baseball. I am a fan of the Mets. I am not a fan of domestic violence," Familia says in the ads.
