Call it a hunch, but calling a person in debt fat, uneducated, ghetto, and a reject wonโ€™t lead to them instantly thinking, โ€œGee, this racist white man has really made me see the error of my ways. Let me go write a check that wonโ€™t bounce this instant.โ€

Iโ€™m almost certain the same can be said of threatening sexual assault to a personโ€™s daughter.

Thankfully, New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo is trying to shut down this and other debt collector companies who use outrageous tactics in both the state of New York and others across the country to collect money owed.

Itโ€™s a shame that Dorothy Gilbert, the victim in question, claims she now sleeps with the receipt of the bill she actually paid over a year ago under her mattress just in case the demented debt collector over the phone makes a swing past her home.

Right now there are a lot of people hurting and trying to make due with what little resources they have. One would think those likely making less than $15 an hour would be a bit more understanding to those struggling to keep up with the bills. But then you have to quickly remind yourself that are a lot of people among us who qualify for an extended stay in a padded room.

The irony of it all is the caller had the audacity to question Gilbertโ€™s education. The last time I checked, one didnโ€™t need a college degree to work at a call center.

All this guyโ€™s doing is giving companies another reason to base their call centers in New Delhi, not Middle America.
