Of course, her fans expected all things classic Nicki for this comeback, her Barbie aesthetic, and catchy beats, but most of all those eyebrow-raising disses. And this album delivered just that, and rapper Latto was the one to fall victim.
Last month Nicki posted on Instagram, alluding to possible beefs being addressed in the album typing, โIf you had the opportunity to apologize and didnโt take it, always remember: you had the opportunity of a lifetime.โ Interestingly, itโs often been Nicki to start the beef sheโs had with people over the years. But sheโs the one expecting apologies? Yeah, good luck with that, Nicki.
The โSuper Bassโ rapper has had a rocky time in her career to keep relationships with other musicians, specifically female singers and rappers. So far sheโs pickled fights with Cardi B, Remy Ma, Megan Thee Stallion, Miley Cyrus, Lil Kim, Iggy Azalea, and Taylor Swift.
In the fifth track of the new album, โFallin 4 Uโ, she drops a play on words that might reference the โPut It On Da Floor Againโ rapper:
โPicture you endinโ up under the sea, where the dread at?/Picture not listeninโ when I said you would dread that/ I mean locs ho, youโs-youโs a chop ho/ Iโm number one, yโall go argue over top four/ Clean sweep, you gettinโ mopped, hoโ
In her rapping cadence, โlocs hoโ sounds like Latto. โYouโs a chop, ho?โ Uh oh! Last November, Nicki had an issue with Lattoโs song โBig Energyโ getting nominated for a Grammy in the rap category while her song โSuper Freaky Girlโ was removed from rap and put in the pop category. She went on to say that artists should be speaking up when others are wronged, calling Latto (who is Black and white) a Karen for not taking a stand for her. Latto, disappointed in Nicki whom she respected, posted on X that she couldnโt even celebrate her Grammy nomination due to all the fuss. The two artists continued to air out their grievances over X. Unfortunately, a year later it seems like Nicki isnโt ready to let it go.
