In September 2022, nearly two weeks after his death, a family of three were arrested as the main suspects in the murder. Freddie Lee Trone and his teenage son were both charged with one count of murder, one count of conspiracy to commit robbery, and two counts of second-degree robbery. Freddie Leeโs wife and the stepmom of the teenage boy, Shauntel Trone, was charged with one count of accessory after the fact, according to the Los Angeles District Attorneyโs Office.
Thatโs right. A whole family was allegedly in on the murder of the beloved Philadelphia rapper. Until now at least.
On Monday, two new suspects, Tremont Jones and Wynisha Evans, appeared in custody at a Los Angeles court and are also accused of aiding the family in the murder of Rock.
According to Rolling Stone, Jones was arrested in May and charged with two counts of robbery, one count of conspiracy to commit robbery, and one count of illegal possession of a firearm. Allegedly, Jones provided the gun used in the shooting and tipped off other suspects of PnB Rockโs location.
Similar to Jones, Evans was also arrested in May, but she was charged with one count of accessory after the fact. Sheโs accused of driving Freddie Lee Trone to Las Vegas after the incident to get away from local authorities.
More from Rolling Stone:
In a motion to dismiss charges, Jonesโ defense lawyer quoted from a probable cause hearing held last August in which a detective testified that Jones and PnB Rock โexchanged a fist bumpโ when the rapper first entered the restaurant with his girlfriend, Stephanie Sibounheuang. The motion says the detective told the court that Jones met up with Freddie Trone outside the restaurant a short time later, before the shooting, and appeared to hand over an object that he retrieved from his sedan and โcovered with a towel.โ Jones also dialed Troneโs phone number around the time of the slaying, the detective testified, according to the motion.
Previously, local authorities and people on social media initially blamed Rockโs girlfriend, Stephanie Sibounheuang, for giving away their location by posting it on her Instagram story at the time.
But further investigations revealed that a mystery man saw the couple enter the Roscoeโs House of Chicken & Waffles in South Los Angeles, Calif. On Sept. 12., and told Freddie Lee Trone about it. Prosecutors believe that the mystery man was Jones.
According to Rolling Stone, Jonesโ attorney is denying that claim in a motion to dismiss.
