According to WXII 12, officers were responding to a call made around 7:30 p.m. about shots fired when they encountered Travis Nevelle Page, 31, of Winston-Salem, who, they claim, matched the description given by the caller of the suspect who reportedly fired the weapon. A short chase ensued, and according to police, Page struggled with officers as they attempted to arrest him. Officers note that a gun was found on Page before he was arrested.

Page reportedly became unresponsive after being handcuffed. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

"An autopsy will be conducted Thursday, but the final report may not be released for two to three months," WXII 12 reports.

Four members of the Winston-Salem Police Departmentโ€”Cpl. Robert Fenimore and Officers Christopher Doub, Austin Conrad and Jacob Tuttleโ€”have all been placed on administrative duty during the investigation. The news station notes that Conrad and Tuttle have been on the force for less than three years, while Fenimore and Doub have 20 years or more with the Police Department.
