David Dean Smith, 51, turned himself in to police last week and admitted to the crime. He said that he is sexually aroused by causing pain to women.

Only two women have been identified to date as victims. One of the women who came forward said that he told her there were 3,000 men and women who were victims. She met him through a Yahoo personals ad, which police believe was his main means of finding victims.

"He's charming," the alleged victim, who didn't want to be identified, told 24 Hour News 8. "He's very charming."

"He hits drifters," said the alleged victim. "He hits people who are young. He hits young women, and from what I understand, he hits men, too. Those are his targets."

Health officials released alerts to residents in Kent County, Mich., to come forward and get tested.

"We want to make sure that anyone who may have injected drugs with [him], who may have had sex with him, does come forward and get tested," Kent County Health Department spokeswoman Lisa LaPlante told the TV station. "We want to make sure that they're not spreading the virus to anyone else."

Smith was recently admitted to a rehabillitation center, according to court documents.

While any individual who commits a crime of this magnitude has to be deranged, aside from rehabillitation, this man needs to be locked up for good. There are just some crimes that are worthy of that type of sentence.
