Robinson was at the legislature for a ceremony celebrating a Craven County police officer when reporters attempted to ask him questions after it was over. โYou want to come out here and besmirch that ladyโs award by coming out here and asking me that silly question?โ Robinson quipped back.
โThatโs what you got out of this? Thereโs your answer. Shameful, thatโs what it is. Pure shameful. And you should be ashamed.โ Just weeks ago, Robinsonโwho is currently the Republican nominee for governorโgarnered a slew of negative press after he told church attendees that people need to be killed during one of his campaign stops.
โSome folks need killing!โ Robinson said during a half-hour speech in Lake Church in the town of White Lake. โItโs time for somebody to say it. Itโs not a matter of vengeance. Itโs not a matter of being mean or spiteful. Itโs a matter of necessity!โ
Robinson, who labels himself as a โMAGA Republicanโ has a history of deplorable remarks. He has stated that trans women should be arrested, homosexuality is linked to pedophilia, supported the racist โbirtherโ conspiracy about Barack Obama, called Michelle Obama a man and promoted antisemitic conspiracy theories.
Anderson Clayton, the North Carolina Democratic Party chairwoman, shared her disapproval for Robinsonโs during a virtual news conference earlier this week. โMark Robinson makes North Carolina less safe...itโs jarring and irresponsible for the sitting lieutenant governor and the Republican nominee for governor to say something so reckless and so clearly intended to incite violence.โ
