Kilpatrick, 41, was sentenced to prison for at least 18 months and up to five years after a judge ruled that he had been hiding assets that should have been used to pay his $1 million restitution to the city of Detroit. The restitution came under a plea deal Kilpatrick reached in 2008 to end the criminal prosecution stemming from a text-message scandal.

Corrections spokesman Russ Marlan said he did not know when Kilpatrick would be released, but it will not be before July 24, which would fulfill the minimum sentence Wayne County Circuit Court Judge David Groner set.ย

It will be interesting to see how long Kilpatrick stays out of jail this time, especially since there is always trouble around him. He recently testified in a slain-stripper lawsuit, not to mention his recent indictment onย 19 counts of mail fraud. He's releasing a tell-all book, but a judge ruled that all profits must go toward restitution. We're wondering what his next steps will be. Hopefully, whatever they are, they will be in the right direction.
