According to Deadline, Jay Z and Will Smith, who produced 2014's Annie remake, are teaming up once again to co-produce a HBO miniseries that will tell the story of Emmett Till, the 14-year-old from Chicago who was brutally killed by two white men in 1955 after he allegedly flirted with the wife of one of the men while visiting Mississippi.ย

It's particularly fitting that Jay Z, Smith and HBO think that Till's story needs retelling now, especially given the ongoing national conversation about how unarmed black men are targeted by law enforcement and white vigilantes.

Reports say that the Till miniseries, which will probably be six hours, is in "active development" and currently needs a writer. Smith and Jay Z are natural creatives, so the project is in good hands. They're both extremely talented, hardworking individuals who seem to find sport in taking on new challenges and putting on their managerial hats.
