Jamie Foxx is getting more vulnerable than ever before. The multi-hyphenate icon is gearing up for the release of his brand new comedy special, “What Had Happened Was.” The show, which will air on Netflix, was taped early October in Atlanta, focuses on Foxx’s highly publicized health scare last year.

In a powerful backstage video posted to CBS Mornings Instagram page, anchor Gayle King is seen with Foxx and his team, celebrating the success of his three-night run. In the video, Foxx tells King, “It was an excruciating time to be able to open those wounds every single day for three nights.”
He explained that the most excruciating part of it was the “worry.” “We’ve got a great show in the room, but we don’t know what they may laugh or what they may not laugh at,” Foxx said.
“Usually, when you do a stand-up special, you go out for a year and a half and work every nook and cranny, then you tape it,” he explained. “You don’t just show up in Atlanta and turn the camera on.”
King told Foxx directly in the video that she had never “seen this Jamie Foxx” until this special, and that she was laughing and crying at the same time. Foxx joked to King, “I am never going to go through this again. My next jokes will start out, ‘knock, knock.”
Foxx ended the video with a toast, telling his team to, “Sit back, watch it, and build toward a newer, brighter and healthier future.”
As The Root reported, Foxx’s special was first announced in September of this year, with the three-night-event described as “intimate and engaging” in the official announcement. No word on when the special will make its way to Netflix.
