Just days after the family of a 13-year-old Oakland, Calif., girl petitioned the courts to have an Alameda County judge declare the teen alive, the family's lawyer released a video clip showing her responding to verbal commands.

In video released Friday, Nailah Winkfield, the mother of Jahi McMath, asks her daughter to move her hand, and Jahi moves her right hand. In another clip the mother asks Jahi to move a foot, which sheย does after some verbal encouragement. โI always knew โcause I'm her mother, and I talk to Jahi, she responds, so I said, โShe canโt be brain-dead if sheโs responding,โโ Winkfield said, according to ABC 7 Los Angeles. ย
Family members gathered Friday at the office of Christopher Dolan, their attorney, to release the video, arguing that Jahi is not brain-dead, the television station reports.
โThereโs a difference between being brain-damaged and โฆ being brain-dead,โ Dolan said, according to ABC 7.
