According to Deadline, during the Television Critics Association (TCA) panel for A Black Lady Sketch Show (where she serves as executive producer), Rae confirmed the show’s Season 4 shooting schedule will begin in September. Additionally, Rae confirmed Season 4 will have 10 episodes instead of the usual eight.

The episode increase is especially noteworthy as I—and others—have noticed the discrepancy between her show and say, a show like Girls, which received a sizable order of episodes from the jump (it started with 10 and one of the seasons had 12). In contrast, Insecure has been teetering on eight episodes per season, with three seasons behind it. I hate to make the constant comparison, but since we’re constantly making comparisons, it had to be pointed out.

Rae has been quite the busy bee as she secures every bag in every industry from television to beauty, but the Insecure crew has, at least, tried to keep us in the loop on social media as we await Season 4 happenings.

While Insecure was nominated for two Primetime Emmys last year—Rae for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series and Cinematography in a Single-Camera Series (Half Hour)—there was a noticeable dip in interest among fans in regards to this most recent season’s direction. Specifically, there was critique regarding the absence of the type of conflict that Lawrence (Jay Ellis) and Daniel (Y’Lan Noel) provided in previous seasons. Perhaps the extended wait will bring a refreshing approach to the series, echoing the spark of earlier seasons.

Season 4 of Insecure will be returning to your premium cable screens in 2020.
