A former North Carolina Ku Klux Klan leader who was convicted of murder after he shot and killed a black teenager using a crossbow just three days after Christmas in 1992 was denied parole.

According to the Charlotte Observer, Russell Hinson, 56, shot 16-year-old Felicia Houston through the chest with a razor-tipped arrow as she walked down the sidewalk with her two cousins.
Hinson was convicted in 1993 and was sentenced to life in prison after an all-white jury was deadlocked on whether he should get the death penalty. On Tuesday the state Department of Public Safety denied Hinson’s parole.
