Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker, a trained stage actor, will be making his Broadway debut this spring playing a hustler named Erie in the Eugene O'Neill play Hughie. Al Pacino played Erie in 1996.ย
According to Variety, the play is an hourlong monologue in which Erie, in the lobby of a hotel, reminisces about the good ol' days. He talks the ears off the hotel clerk as he brings up fond memories of his late friend Hughie, the previous clerk.
Whitaker kills every production he's a part of; and more important, he knows how to choose great scripts, so this should be a must-see. The opening night of Hughie has yet to be announced.ย
