Dave Williams, 43, was shot shortly after bringing cookies and Gatorade to his team after football practice in a Fort Lauderdale park, as reported by CBS News.

During the time of the shooting, hundreds of parents, kids, and coaches were at Mills Pond Park. It occurred at around 8:45 p.m. in the parking lot.
Williams was taken to the hospital but unfortunately did not survive.
Despite the amount of people in the park, no one else was hurt in the shooting.
According to CBS News, Witnesses claim that they saw some men approaching Williams, and a little while later, heard the shots go off and saw the men running away.
"Coach Dave," as they called him, coached the Fort Lauderdale Hurricanes youth football club. He had been a youth football coach for the past 12 years.
"It’s a sad day," said Jamaal Gaines, president of the Hurricanes. "I feel so bad that it happened around what we were trying to do for the children in our city."
The Hurricanes had the rest of their games cancelled for the weekend and are planning events to remember their coach.
"This is not the place for this kind of violence," said Florida Youth Football League president, Martin Maultsby. "I’ve been in (youth football) for over 20 years, and this is the first one."
