Ray Anthony Lewis III, 20, was indicted Aug. 11 and “is accused of sexually assaulting an 18-year-old woman while knowing she was under the influence,” and “when the defendant knew or had reason to know that the victim was mentally defective, mentally incapacitated or physically helpless.”

The sexual assault is said to have taken place Jan. 23, 2016, and after an investigation, police issued an arrest warrant for Lewis III, who was later released on $10,000 bond after he turned himself in to the police.

Lewis III initially played cornerback at his father’s alma mater, the University of Miami, but in 2015 he transferred to Coastal Carolina. It was there that the assault allegedly took place. The team has put Lewis III on “indefinite suspension,” according to a spokesperson.

Ray Lewis Jr. is considered one of the greatest ever to play the middle linebacker position. He played his entire career with the Ravens and went to 13 Pro Bowls.

Lewis Jr. also had some trouble with the law in 2000, when he pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice in connection with the stabbing deaths of two men. The following year, when he became the second linebacker to win the Super Bowl Most Valuable Player Award on a winning Super Bowl team, Disney World declined to use him for its famous post-Super Bowl ad, instead going with white quarterback Trent Dilfer.
