A woman who made headlines several years ago after falsely accusing three Duke University lacrosse players of rape was convicted of second-degree murder Friday in the stabbing death of her boyfriend, the Associated Press reports.

The jury reached its verdict after about six hours of deliberation over two days in the trial of 34-year-old Crystal Mangum, who was sentenced to between 14 years and 18 years in prison, the AP reports.
Forty-six-year-old Reginald Daye was stabbed on April 3, 2011, and died of complications 10 days later.
She said that the stabbing was the result of self-defense, saying that he was beating her in a jealous rage when she grabbed a knife and “poked him in the side,” the AP says. But the district attorney told jurors during closing arguments that the evidence did not support her argument.
Mangum became the center of controversy in 2006 after falsely accusing Duke lacrosse players of gang-raping her at a team party where she was hired as a stripper. The allegations garnered national attention, leading to the coach’s resignation and prompting the university to cancel the remainder of the season.The three arrested players were declared innocent and the prosecutor disbarred.
