The Washington Post is reporting that International Monetary Fund chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn has resigned. Strauss-Kahn, who was one of the most powerful men in the world and possibly the next president of France, is facing charges of sexual assault against a maid, an African immigrant, while he was a guest at a hotel in New York City.

In his resignation letter, the IMF chief stated, "I deny with the greatest possible firmness all of the allegations that have been made against me. I want to protect this institution which I have served with honor and devotion and especially — especially — I want to devote all my strength, all my time, and all my energy to proving my innocence."
He's going to need all of this time to fight the charges because it isn't looking good for the former IMF chief. He was on suicide watch yesterday, and more details are emerging about the victim, who appears to be a stand-up woman.
