When it comes to medical myths, Philly-based family physician Dr. Jen Caudle is known online for shedding light on popular misconceptions. The more than 224,000 subscribers to her YouTube channel and 162,000-plus followers on TikTok turn to Caudle to break down everything from the potential dangers of sea moss to what a woman’s lady parts are really supposed to smell like.

But it’s a video she posted a few months back about the average size of male genitalia that has a lot of people rethinking whether or not size really matters.
In case you were wondering why Caudle decided to speak out on this subject, you’re not alone. In her video, the doctor says she felt compelled to deliver the facts to help clear up misconceptions about average size and help eliminate the societal pressures some guys feel to make sure their member measures up to an unrealistic standard.
In fact, the doctor is quick to point out that the length of a non-erect penis does not actually predict erection size. She also says that when it comes to pleasure, size doesn’t always equal satisfaction.
“Perhaps that’s the most important message that I need to give in this video is that you’re fine,” she said.
According to Dr. Caudle, who cites monthly peer-reviewed medical journal BJU International for her stats, the average size of a non-erect penis is 3.16 inches. The number goes up to 5.17 inches for an erect penis.
That information was useful and all. But of course, if there’s a video out there about penis size, all we really care about are the comments. And of course, they lit up with guys who were relieved to make the cut off.

Other commenters seemed to justify their lack of length in other ways.

“Wait, in America? Or in the whole world? 😭😭😭,” they asked.
