Only Democratic leaders were invited to the 6 p.m. meeting, according to the Hill's Blog Briefing Room. It lasted about an hour, and it was unclear as of this posting what had come out of that confab.

Earlier, during a conference call, House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) urged GOP members to "stick together" and discussed a proposal that could be ready for a vote on Wednesday.

A leadership aide explained to The Hill that Boehner's goal is to have a plan ready for discussion at a 2 pm closed-door meeting on Monday with GOP rank-and-file members; after which the legislative text would be posted Monday night. That could set up a vote on a yet-to-be-seen proposal by Wednesday.

Even though lawmakers worked all weekend, they're still meeting separately and seem to be far apart on a deal. Hopefully they can come together this week, because they are running out of time as the Aug. 2 deadline swiftly approaches.
