Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott is having a breakout rookie season, but all of that could come to a crashing halt. If the NFL determines that he violated its domestic-abuse policy, Elliott could be facing a lengthy suspension, according to CBS Sports.

Elliott reportedly had five complaints filed against him for domestic abuse while playing for Ohio State. Authorities in Columbus, Ohio, declined to press charges against the running back after the prosecutor's office determined "conflicting and inconsistent information across all incidents resulting in concern regarding the sufficiency of the evidence to support the filing of criminal charges," CBS reports.
Elliot was recently interviewed as part of the NFL's investigation, and according to the league’s new policy, a player can still be suspended even if he is not arrested or charged with domestic violence. The NFL policy calls for a six-game suspension after the first case of abuse. The NFL has been heavily scrutinized in recent weeks after newly emerging reports confirmed that New York Giants kicker Josh Brown abused his ex-wife on several occasions. The NFL conducted its own investigation and even went against its policy of a six-game ban, issuing only a one-game suspension at the start of the season, citing "mitigating circumstances," CBS reports.
The Giants eventually released Brown after the public demanded that the kicker be let go.
