The Rocky-revival film Creed made its box office debut over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend to rave reviews in mainstream and social media.

TheWrap reports that the film is expected to make up to $40 million, more than any of the six sequelsย in the 39-year-oldย Rocky franchise.
The MGM/New Line Cinema drama, which stars Sylvester Stallone and Michael B. Jordan, is expected to sail past the $35 million production budgetย by roughlyย $5 million by Sunday, making it a commercial success, according to the entertainment news outlet.
The film was directed and written by Ryan Coogler, who teamed with Jordan two years ago on the critically acclaimed Fruitvale Station.
โThey donโt make movies as unabashedly emotional as thisย very often these days, and as well-executed as itย is, Iโd expect it toย connect,โ media analyst Jeff Bock told TheWrap.
Creed follows No. 1 box office drawย The Hunger Games: MockingjayโPart 2,โ which is expected to rake in $75 million.ย The Good Dinosaur, the Pixar Animation family film, comes in at No. 2 and is expected to earn up to $55 million through Sunday for Disney, the report says.
