Dominiq Greer of the Englewood section of Chicago had just wrapped up a Wednesday news conference where he announced a $15 million federal lawsuit after being shot seven times by Chicago police two years ago.

As Greer sat waiting for a ride from the news conference, he was instead picked up by police and arrested on a murder warrant, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
“I had no clue,” his lawyer, Eugene Hollander, told the news site. “It’s definitely a surprise to me. He was going to grab an Uber back home and as he was waiting, a squad car pulled up.”
The warrant, issued May 29, stems from the May 27 fatal shooting of Kevin Larry, 22. Greer is expected to be formally charged within 48 hours.
“We became aware he was holding a press conference for a civil suit against the Police Department, and the Police Department doesn’t wait to apprehend people accused of murder,” Anthony Guglielmi, chief spokesman for the Chicago Police Department, told the Sun-Times.
On May 27, officers reportedly responded to a call of shots fired at an apartment and found Larry fatally wounded. Greer allegedly was playing a dice game and got into an argument over money before the shooting.
After the shooting, authorities issued an "officer safety alert" regarding Greer, who was allegedly overheard by witnesses saying that he would "not be taken alive."
“He should be considered armed and dangerous,” the alert said.
Greer was carrying a weapon July 4, 2014, when he was chased by police officers. Greer claimed to have tossed the gun before he was shot seven times. Greer added that police should have chased him instead of opening fire on him.
“They should have did their job and try to catch me instead of shooting me. If I ain’t never bring no harm to you, why would you bring harm to me?” Greer said at the news conference announcing the lawsuit.
