While Williams finished the first set in 18 minutes, she admitted Kanepi wasnโt an easy opponent.
โIt wasnโt an easy match at all,โ she said, according to NBC Sports. โI was just happy to get through it, to be honest.โ
If Williams wins this yearโs US Open, she will tie Margaret Courtโs record for 24 Grand Slam singles titles. She missed last yearโs US Open because of pregnancy during which she suffered life-threatening complications.
