A British man was arrested over the weekend at a Donald Trump rally in Las Vegas after authorities say he tried to take a police officer's gun to kill the presumptive Republican nominee, the Associated Press reports.

While at the rally Saturday, Sandford approached the officer to say he wanted Trump's autograph before trying to swipe the weapon. Michael Steven Sandford, 20, had been planning an assassination for about a year, authorities say.
Sandford is being charged with an act of violence on restricted grounds and was denied bail during a Monday court appearance. Federal Magistrate Judge George Foley deemed Sandford a potential danger to the community and a flight risk. According to his court-appointed attorney, Sandford had been living out of his car and was illegally in the country after overstaying a visa.
Heather Fraley, Sandford's assigned attorney, said that her client had not been diagnosed with a mental illness, but she also mentioned that he has autism and had previously attempted suicide. The 20-year-old does not have a job.
His mother told court researchers that he had been treated for obsessive-compulsive disorder and anorexia when he was younger and that he had once run away from a hospital in England.
Sandford reportedly told authorities that he was certain he would die in the assassination attempt.
