Barack Obama Marked the Tenth Anniversary of “Suitgate” With the Perfect Instagram Post

Ten years after former President Obama's wardrobe scandal, it seems tan suits are making a comeback.

On August 28, 2014, former President Barack Obama got his Republican haters all up in their feelings during a press briefing on the United Statesโ€™ military response to ISIS. But the controversy was less about what he said, โ€œWe donโ€™t have a strategy yet,โ€ and more about what he wore. President Obamaโ€™s tan suit got plenty of criticism for being too casual for such an important press conference.

โ€œHe looked like he was on his way to a party at the Hamptons,โ€ Rep. Peter King (R-NY), told CNN in an interview at the time.

Now, ten years later, our Forever President is marking the anniversary of the infamous wardrobe controversy on Instagram.

โ€œHow it started. How itโ€™s going. Ten years later, and itโ€™s still a good look! IWillVote.com,โ€ he captioned his August 28 post which featured a side-by-side shot of him in his tan suit next to a picture of Vice President Harris in a Chloรฉ pantsuit in a similar hue on the first night of the Democratic National Convention last week in Chicago.

Obamaโ€™s post has received over 670,000 likes in less than 24 hours, and judging by the comments, most people agree that a tan suit is, in fact, very presidential.

โ€œTan suits are the Black air force ones of politics now. When we wear them, we are standing on business. AND VOTING,โ€ wrote actor/author Luvvie Ajayi Jones.

Others reminisced on the political good old days when it was the Presidentโ€™s fashion choices rather than felony convictions that had the country divided.

โ€œRemember when a tan suit was the biggest scandal a sitting president had? I miss those days,โ€ wrote one commenter.

Still others applauded the former President for taking a break from his wife, Former First Lady Michelle Obamaโ€™s suggestion at the 2016 Democratic National Convention to go high when others go low, with a less than subtle jab at the other side.

โ€œThe Obamas are unleashedโ€ฆ..AND IM HERE FOR IT!!โ€ wrote someone.
