On the night of June 10, 39-year-old Latasha Cureton was sleeping in her home in Gastonia, N.C. while her children watched television. A loud sound that witnesses thought were fireworks interrupted the peace, according to WSOC.
Curetonโs daughter, who was not identified, told WSOC, โIt was like being like an explosion. We thought it was a loud bang like something fell in the kitchen all of a sudden, it was multiple bangs like fireworks, but then it got louder and louder. We ran and took cover and covered up the babies.โ
Her son allegedly found Cureton in her bedroom after she yelled, โIโm hit!โ None of her children were hit by any of the bullets.
More from WSOC:
There were 13 shots into or through the front door. You can look through the holes and see outside.
A family friend said there was nowhere that was safe in the home when the shooting started.
โAnybody has to know that thereโs a lot of children that live in this house,โ Keith Rice said. โAnd for somebody to shoot so many times, or even just to shoot in the house, is ridiculous. These people are godless.โ
Officers are going door-to-door blocks away from where the shooting happened, hoping to find anyone who may have seen, heard, or recorded something helpful.
Since her death, Curetonโs family has organized a GoFundMe, to help the family โalleviate the financial strain and allow us to focus on grieving and remembering Tasha.โ
Sydney Weaver, Curetonโs close friend, revealed in an interview with Queen City News that Cureton was in the process of planning her wedding. No arrests have been made in the case.
