According to rumors circulating around the NBA, Simmons never wanted to play for the 76ers. He reportedly really wanted to take his talents to the now Kobe-less Los Angeles Lakers. But the dreaded lottery balls of fate did not deem it so, and Simmons was taken by the hapless 76ers. He was shaping up to have a pretty good year, if the summer season holds any weight.

On Friday, Simmons broke his foot and is expected to have surgery. NBC Sports reports that Simmons was expected to be out around three months, but according to rumors, Simmons' agent, Rich Paul, plans to hold Simmons out for the entire year.

Philadelphia Daily News' Bob Cooney appeared on 97.5 The Fanatic and had this to say:

I just got off the phone with somebody who I really trust in the NBA, and heโ€™s like thereโ€™s no way his agent is going to let him play this year. Thatโ€™s an injury that you donโ€™t mess around with, and he thinks heโ€™s going to keep him off his feet all year.

Apparently the amount of time needed to heal properly from a broken foot varies with each individual. Philadelphia 76ers fans can only hope that Simmons heals quickly, or else all hope for fielding a mildly competitive team this year is lost.
