On Friday, French officials announced that Cherif and Said Kouachi, the two brothers suspected of gunning down staffers in the Paris newsroom of the satirical publication Charlie Hebdo, were shot dead by police in front of a printing plant in Dammartin-en-Goรซle,ย a town outside Paris, CNN reports. French law-enforcement officials also described how they engaged another set of hostage takers, who are believed to be accomplices of the Kouachi brothers, at a kosher supermarket in Paris.

Amedy Coulibaly, one of the alleged associates of the Kouachi brothers, is said to have been shot dead at the marker by authorities, according to the New York Times. The other associate, Hayat Boumeddiene, escaped during the shooting melee, CNN reported.
โHayat Boumeddiene, the 26-year-old woman wanted in Thursdayโs fatal shooting of a policewoman outside Paris, escaped Friday from the grocery store in the confusion as hostages ran away,โ a CNN report explained.
Hostages taken by suspects Coulibaly and Boumeddiene in the supermarket have been freed.
The New York Times explains that the โgunman in the supermarketโโa likely reference to Coulibaly because of the gender indicated hereโโhad threatened to kill his hostages if the brothers were attacked.โ
Coulibaly was also the suspect in the Thursday shooting of a French policewoman.
